Not often I post stuff like this, but as I wandered the dismal corridors of the internet: a shopping centre with a huge advice bureau where all the advice is based on opinion rather than fact, I found a version of the Battles My Machines video I could borrow for on here. The song (along with Jerry Reed’s East Bound and Down) is a current constant on the turntable (I’m bored of saying iPod, I want a record player again. My plane must surely be landing on Fantasy Island soon).
Quite apart from Numan’s vocals being the better than anything else he’s done since 1981, in the video the man on the escalator makes Holly laugh, but with a little touch of concern there too, while I feel nothing but complete empathy for the poor bastard. It’s like looking into a mirror.
