Blue Moon

When one door sticks, another one opens.
Our business in this world is not to succeed, but to continue to fail in good spirits.
Ne’er cast a clout till May be oot.
Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.
Be happy yer living, for yer a lang time deid.
A misty morning might be a clear day yet.
A good tale never tires in the telling.
Plaister thick an some will stick.
Better speak bauldly out than aye be grumphin’.

Start as you mean to go on.

  1. Laziness is a heavy burden.
    An empty sack wont stand.
Don’t look too hard into other people’s failings as you are apt to forget your own.

    Or something!

  2. Noo, ye King of The Purple… Talking of empty sacks and laziness… I’ve just been reading that the new stock of the OMM Mountain Mover will hit the shops in April. Do you happen to know if they’ve got round to putting hip belt zip pockets on the MM like they have on the Villain and Jirishanca? In 2008 Pete Collins told me that the belt pockets were a possibility but the 2009 version was still pocket-less. I’m holding out getting an MM until the pockets are in, you see.

Any hints from your Purple-tron crystal ball?

(we need them road gritted or else how do we reach the hills?)

  3. The MM was discontinued last year, it was existing stock in the shops, but the new owners are bringing it back again. As far as I know it’ll be exactly the same as the old model.
I like it (I’m using mine on the next overnighter, so I’ll have an update) but it did need tweaks all over to make just right. It carries a load like a dream if the belt fits your shape.

Mine’s got removable shoulder padding and bladder sleeve, I shall reveal all soon enough!

  4. Ta for the info, pete, useful as wever. New owners?? Didnae know about that. Hope they’ll keep the good stuff all in place… The Villain is usually fine, but given this sort of winter one might need a bit more space for the extra layer or two, so I was considering the MM for when the confounded Villain lid refuses to accommodate the extra space… It’ll be a pity if the belt still hasn’t got zip pockets. I love having energy bars at the ready… Look forward to the next trip report then (tell ya what: the next item in my shopping list is a 4×4 to get to the hills. It’s all right having all this ultra-light gear in the cupboard, but if you can’t reach the ‘Gorms, what’s the point??

  5. Uh. I suppose the point of my first post was: if they won’t add the belt pockets in the next batch (or maybe never…), I could then just buy the MM now (I think a couple of online retailers still have got some).

  6. It’s partly why I haven’t been out, the driving, the roads and the other people in cars who haven’t driven in these conditions before (age has some advantages).
The chest pouch is good when you don’t have the hip pockets, so I’ll be fine with the MM I think. The extra space in the MM is good for longer trips, extra food might be a problem in the Villain.
I’ve got a couple of longer trips coming up, so if the MM checks out I’ll be sorted.

The OMM thing will all be revealed shortly, it’s kind of the end of an era, but the OMM kit will be good for the time being at least.

  7. Alright, then! I’ll get one tomorrow… It’s another cracking night outside. ‘twould have been a perfect day for summit camping. I think when I retire I’ll get a hoose in Braemar or somewhere like that…

  8. My cold/achey bones remedy was (in no particular order): lucozade, sudafed, irn-bru, home-made veg soup, Thorntons chocolate smothered (not covered!) fudge and tea. Worked a treat.

In saying that, I’m now getting a sore head – too much chocolate fudge :o)

  9. Btw i tried to take photies of that blue moon eclipse thing the other night but it didn’t quite work through a window. On the plus side, i figured out a few nightime settings on my camera and those pics were quite good. I used 4 books and a box as my tripod as my hands were too shaky to hold the camera for 60 seconds. :o)

  10. Macaroni Cheese and Chips versus the cold. It was a titanic struggle which has left me exhausted.
I think the cold is fighting back now though…

    Night photies rock!
